How ongoing casino promotions work

7 min read

Welcome offers get the attention. After that, most UK-licensed casinos run a quieter calendar: reloads, tournaments, missions and occasional free-spin drops. This page describes those structures. It does not list current deals, name prize amounts, or tell you to opt in.

Reload or recurring offers

A reload is a bonus attached to a later deposit, not the first one. It may be a percentage of that deposit, a spin bundle, or a small cashback line. UK advertising rules require the significant conditions — wagering, expiry, eligible games — to be clear before you opt in. A reload that looks identical every Thursday can still change its game list; read the current terms, not last month’s memory.

Tournaments

A tournament is a timed leaderboard. You play eligible games, the operator scores spins or returns by its published rules, and a prize pool is split among ranked players. Prizes may be bonus funds or spins, which then carry their own wagering. Opting in is usually required. Volume of play is the typical ranking input, which is why tournaments can pull people past the budget they set for a session. Treat the prize table as a description of the contest, not as expected value.

Missions and challenges

Missions pay a reward for completing a defined task: a number of spins on a named slot, a live-table stake, or a streak of logins. The reward is almost always bonus money or spins. The task itself is extra play. If the mission sits inside an app, it can be easier to tap through than to read; the terms still apply.

Did you know

The UK Gambling Commission’s social-responsibility rules require operators to present bonus terms in a way a customer can understand before opting in, and to make it possible to use an account without taking a bonus at all.

Wagering, in one pass

Wagering (playthrough) is the multiple you must stake before bonus funds, or winnings from spins, can be withdrawn. A 30× requirement on a £10 bonus means £300 of qualifying stakes. Slots often contribute 100%; live casino and table games often contribute far less, or nothing. Max-bet clauses can void the bonus if you stake above a stated cap while clearing it. Expiry is usually measured in days from credit, not from first spin.

MrQ, on our shortlist, publishes promotions with no wagering on winnings. That is a product choice, not the UK default. Most other licensed casinos still attach playthrough. Neither approach changes the fact that you can lose the underlying stake.

Cashback lines

Cashback credits a percentage of net losses over a period, usually as bonus funds. “Net” is defined in the terms and may exclude unfinished bets or bonus-tainted play. Because it arrives after losses, it is not a hedge that makes play safe. It is a delayed, often wager-gated, credit.

What to open before you opt in

  • Wagering multiple and which games contribute
  • Expiry clock and whether it starts on credit or first use
  • Max bet while the bonus is active
  • Whether the reward is cash, bonus or spins
  • Country and account status (new, reactivated, excluded)

Slot Shortlist does not operate promotions and cannot attach a bonus to your account. If a term is unclear, ask the operator’s support — or skip the offer and play on cash, which is always the simpler path.
